Getting to Know Sami A. Abrams

Sami A. Abrams recently stopped by my blog to share some about her writing life.

When do you find time to write?
I’m a full-time kindergarten teacher, so my writing time comes in the afternoons or evenings during the week. Since my husband is a night owl and I tend to get up early, I’ll also spend time on the weekends before he wakes for the day. Basically, I write whenever I can carve out time.

What’s the weirdest way someone has died or been killed in your novels?
I don’t really have a weird way that someone has died, but I think that trying to poison my heroine with antifreeze ranks up there with weird.

What does your family think of your writing romantic suspense?
My kids think it’s pretty awesome that I’m a writer, and my husband is extremely supportive. But as for the romantic suspense part, there are a few in my family that think I’m crazy writing about killers.

How do you ensure your books are accurate?
I do a lot of internet searches to make sure my facts are accurate. However, my go-to is asking friends who have experience in whatever I’m writing. For example, if it’s a medical question, I’ll go to my nurse friends. For my law enforcement questions, I have a fantastic consultant that answers all my crazy questions.

How do you pick the location/setting of your romantic suspense novels?
I love small-town settings, but don’t like using real locations because I don’t want to get it wrong. So instead, I use places that I’m familiar with and create fictious locations by combining several small towns.

About Sami A. Abrams
Sami A. Abrams lives in Northern California, but she’ll always be a Kansas girl at heart. She loves to travel and watch sports. However, most evenings, you’ll find her engrossed in a romantic suspense novel. She thinks a crime plus a little romance is the recipe for a great story.

Searching for her best friend’s remains could help forensic anthropologist Melanie Hutton regain her memories of when they were both kidnapped—unless the killer gets to Melanie first. For her safety, Melanie must rely on Detective Jason Cooper, who still blames her for his sister’s death.
