On this episode of “The Romantic Side of Suspense,” my guest is Sarah Sundin, the bestselling author of When Twilight Breaks, Until Leaves Fall in Paris, The Sound of Light, and the popular WWII series Sunrise at Normandy, among others. She is a Christy Award winner and a Carol Award winner, and her novels have received starred reviews from Booklist, Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly, and have appeared on Booklist’s “101 Best Romance Novels of the Last 10 Years.” Sarah lives in California.
“The Christian part is the easiest part [for me to write] … because it’s my worldview. It’s how I see God active in the world around us,” Sarah said. “It’s really hard for me to write a story where God isn’t part of it.”

On this episode of “The Romantic Side of Suspense,” I’m talking with award-winning author Carmen Peone, who lives with her tribal husband, Joe, on the Colville Confederated Indian Reservation in Northeast Washington. Carmen has gathered cultural knowledge from family and elders and studied the language and various cultural traditions and legends under the late Marguerite Ensminger. A horse and photography enthusiast, she has a degree in abnormal psychology. The thought of writing never entered her mind until she married her husband and they moved to the reservation after college. She came to love the people and their heritage, and desired to create a legacy for her family. She loves to write inspirational stories of hope, healing, and horses that lead to a happily ever after.
“In the summer, I’ll just be outside, especially in the morning or evening. My office overlooks mountains, trees, hills—it’s a beautiful place,” Carmen said. “I write mostly in the mornings and evenings. … It’s a very peaceful [setting to write in].”
